Course Overview

Bring your ideas to life and explore the world of visual communication with A Level Graphic Design. This course covers a broad range of topics, blending traditional and digital design techniques to help you develop both creativity and technical expertise.
Using industry-standard software, you’ll begin by mastering the fundamentals of graphic design, including typography, colour theory, composition, and visual hierarchy, before applying these principles to real-world projects. You’ll explore branding and identity, creating logos and cohesive visual identities, while also tackling advertising campaigns, packaging, and promotional materials. Illustration and visual communication form a key part of your learning, giving you the tools to express ideas clearly and creatively.

Throughout the course, you’ll develop your own style and approach, guided by teacher-led instruction and independent study. Contextual studies will show you how design reflects culture, history, and social trends, helping you understand the work of other designers and the wider creative industry. All your projects contribute to a professional portfolio, showcasing your skills and creativity, and preparing you for further study or a career in graphic design, multimedia, or branding.

A Level Graphic Design is more than learning tools and techniques—it’s about experimenting, solving problems, and creating work that communicates, inspires, and leaves an impact.”

How is the course delivered?

Learn through studio based lessons blending traditional and digital media. Explore sketchbooks, illustration, motion graphics, branding, and interactive design while developing your creativity and visual language through hands on projects and guided experimentation.

How my learning will be assessed?

A Level Graphics is assessed through two components. Component 1 is a personal investigation, where you explore a topic of your choice, combining practical work with a written study. Component 2 is an externally set assignment, where you respond to a brief with preparatory work and a final piece created under timed conditions. Both components assess your ability to research, develop ideas, experiment with techniques, and create final outcomes. You’ll explore areas like advertising, illustration, branding, and multimedia, while demonstrating creativity, technical skills, and an understanding of audience and purpose.
