Students at NCC now have a new reason to look forward to their breaks. Barista-served Starbucks has officially arrived at the campus cafe, bringing a taste of the high street right to where students study, meet and unwind.
The official ribbon cutting was carried out by Student Governor Jack Carrington, alongside Lisa O’Loughlin CBE, Principal and CEO of East Lancashire Learning Group.
The opening of the new-look café space at NCC followed the successful opening of Starbucks at the busy Coffee Lounge at Accrington and Rossendale College (ARC).
Lucy Baron, Catering Manager at ELLG, says unlike other venues, these aren’t self-service, automatic machine-made brews. She says:
“We have been officially trained by Starbucks themselves, meaning you’re getting barista-served beverages exactly as you’d get them on the high street.
“Payment is quick and easy too, with both card and UPay accepted for a fast, cashless experience.”
Whether it’s a coffee grabbed between lessons, a quiet drink while working through coursework, or a catch-up with friends, the campus cafe is ready to fuel the day.
For Jack Carrington, the launch is something to celebrate.
“Having Starbucks on campus is brilliant. It’s the kind of thing that makes a real difference to your day.
“It also shows we’re really listened to as students. Learners have been asking for this type of space to be created for a while and so it’s fantastic to see the results of that.
“Cutting the ribbon today felt like a genuine moment for all of us.”
Lisa O’Loughlin said the launch reflects the college’s on-going commitment to student life. She said:
“We’re proud to bring Starbucks to NCC. Great facilities matter, from cutting-edge classrooms to relaxing spaces designed to make college a truly inspirational space.
“Investing in the everyday experiences that make campus life better is something we take seriously. Our students told us they wanted this and we listened. It’s another step in creating an environment where students feel supported, valued and happy to spend their time.”
The drinks menu won’t stand still. Seasonal specials are on the way, giving students fresh reasons to visit throughout the year.
