Love history, politics, or literature but not ready for A Levels yet? The Foundation Programme – Humanities Pathway is your stepping stone to success. In just one year, you’ll explore a mix of humanities subjects while building essential skills in research, essay writing, and analysis. You’ll also complete an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) to dig deeper into a topic you’re passionate about. With support to boost your English or Maths if needed, this course prepares you for A Levels and beyond.

Course Overview

Interested in history, politics, geography, or literature but not quite ready to jump straight into A Levels? The Foundation Programme – Humanities Pathway is designed to give you the skills, knowledge, and confidence you need to succeed.

Over one year, you’ll explore a broad range of humanities subjects to build your understanding of the world and how people, societies, and cultures have developed and interacted. Topics could include history and society, culture and identity, politics and law, and communication skills. Alongside this, you’ll develop vital transferable skills in critical thinking, essay writing, research, and analysis—all of which will help you shine at A Level and beyond.

If you didn’t achieve a grade 4 in GCSE English or Maths, don’t worry. You’ll work towards these essential qualifications as part of your study programme, making sure you’ve got the foundation you need for progression.

One of the highlights is the chance to complete an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). This is your opportunity to design your own research project in an area you’re passionate about—whether that’s history, literature, philosophy, or another humanities theme. It’s a great way to stretch yourself, showcase your independence, and prepare for the challenges of advanced study.
