You’ll explore the core principles of care—respect, dignity, confidentiality, and person-centred support—while also learning how to communicate effectively with children, adults, families, and other professionals. Safeguarding and protection are central to the course, giving you the confidence to recognise risks and keep vulnerable people safe. You’ll also build your understanding of health, safety and wellbeing, as well as equality, diversity and inclusion, preparing you to work in a range of care settings.

Other exciting topics include infection prevention and control, human growth and development across the lifespan, and supporting individuals with specific needs, from learning disabilities to mental health conditions. You’ll also focus on your personal development, building the professional values and reflective skills that make a great carer.

Learning isn’t just in the classroom—you’ll take part in work placements in real health and social care settings, applying what you’ve learned and building hands-on experience that employers value. Case studies, presentations, and practical assessments help bring the subject to life.

By the end of the course, you’ll be ready for entry-level roles such as healthcare assistant or support worker, or you can progress to Level 3 qualifications, apprenticeships, or further specialist study.
